GUITARPrivate Lessons  West Bank School of Music has a long tradition of providing students quality, affordable, private lessons in the styles of music they choose to learn. Whether you are a beginner, or an actively performing artist, our faculty of professional musicians will help you set and achieve your music education goals through flexible, creative, and motivating instruction. WBSM Quarter System The West Bank School of Music operates on a 13 week quarter-based system which requires our students to purchase and use their lessons in the same quarter in which they purchase them. Though we operate on a quarter system, students may start lessons at any time. This means students sign up for however many lessons they think they will use during a quarter, whether they sign up at the very beginning, in the middle, or at the end of that quarter. Students are required to use all the lessons in their plan by the end of the quarter in which they are purchased. Unused lessons will be forfeit at the end of each quarter unless unusual circumstances allow for an exception. For students who miss lessons, make-up lessons can be scheduled with their instructor and must take place in the same quarter that the lessons were purchased. Work with your instructor to decide which lesson plan will best fit your needs for each quarter. The quarters are: Fall -- Sept 1 to Nov 30 Winter – Dec 1 to Feb 28 Spring – March 1 to May 31 Summer – June 1 to Aug 31 How do I get started? Contact the WBSM office via phone or email to let us know your instrument and level of experience. (For kids, it’s helpful to know the age of the child as well.) We will interview you briefly to determine the faculty member who is the best fit for you. We will then refer you to an appropriate teacher with whom you can discuss your goals and schedule before confirming the start of your lessons. Once you’re comfortable that you have the right teacher and have settled on your lesson time, it’s time to register and pay for your lessons. What is the cost for private lessons?
You may purchase as many or as few lessons as you want: once a week, every other week, or on an occasional basis. The minimum number of lessons students can sign up for and receive a plan discount is six. For more information, see WBSM Quarter System. How many lessons should I buy? You can work with your instructor to determine lesson frequency. Weekly is the most common. Then you can choose the lesson package that is right for you. Packages of six or more lessons offer a bulk discount. You are required to use all the lessons in your plan by the end of the quarter in which they are purchased. Can I take a trial lesson? You can purchase a single trial lesson to see what you think of the experience. If you decide after that to sign up for a lessons package, we will apply the payment for that first lesson as though it had been purchased as part of the larger package. Can I take In-Home Lessons? To ease your busy schedule, WBSM offers in-home lessons as a convenient, time-saving option. Our instructor will meet you at your home to teach either 45 or 60 minute lessons*. Rates generally cover travel time within the Twin Cities and closer suburbs, but a surcharge may apply if travel time is excessive due to distance or time of day. *At this time, we cannot offer 1/2 hour in-home lessons unless special arrangements are made with permission of the instructor. Call us for details I live on a tight budget. Do you have payment plans? We offer installment payments to those who choose not to pay in full at the start of the quarter. For six or ten lesson plans, payment may be made in two equal installments. For 12 lesson plans, payment may be made in three equal installments. If you are on the installment plan, the first payment is due at the time you start your plan and the next payment is due one month later, and then a month after that if you are on a three payment plan. Do you offer scholarships or other financial assistance? Scholarships We offer current students tuition assistance through the Warren Park Scholarship Fund. Established in honor of West Bank School of Music founder, Warren Park, this scholarship helps students demonstrating financial need to pursue their passion for music. The scholarship will provide 10-40 percent off each session’s tuition and will be granted as funds allow. Application deadlines are May 1, August 1, November 1 and February 1 for Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring quarters respectively. This program is for students who have already enrolled at WBSM as it requires applicants to obtain a letter of recommendation from one of our faculty members. Financial Assistance Programs In addition to financial assistance through scholarships,
the West Bank School of Music offers significant discounts on private lessons to
qualified families with school aged children, veterans of the U.S. military, and people
receiving Social Security Disability benefits. Families with School Aged Children For families, our guidelines are the same as those that qualify families for reduced price, or free meals through the K-12 school lunch program in their public school system. Those who meet district guidelines also meet ours. Families should bring original documentation of their eligibility from their school district. By way of example, for Minneapolis Public Schools that eligibility letter comes from the Nutrition Center of the Minneapolis Public School system. Veterans of the U.S. Military To demonstrate their eligibility for reduced priced lessons, veterans who have served in the U.S. military need only bring their Veterans ID Card or Discharge Papers and an acceptable photo ID. Acceptable IDs include a State of Minnesota Driver’s License, State of Minnesota ID Card, or a current passport. Veterans with proper ID and paperwork can obtain the following discounts on private lessons at WBSM:
Social Security Disability Benefits If you are currently receiving Social Security Disability benefits, you are eligible for discounted private lessons at WBSM. To qualify for the discount, you should bring your benefit determination letter for the current year (Form SSA 4926 SM DI) and an acceptable photo ID. Acceptable IDs include a State of Minnesota Driver’s License, State of Minnesota ID Card, or a current passport. Those receiving social security disability benefits with proper ID and paperwork can obtain the following discounts on private lessons at WBSM:
